Share this articleThe 12th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems, INESS-2024, is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Kazakh scientist Kanysh Satpayev.
The INESS-2024 has established itself as a premier event for exploring the latest trends in nanotechnology and energy systems in Central Asia. Organized by Nazarbayev University, National Laboratory Astana, and Battery Institute LLP, this event gathers over 150 researchers from Japan, Germany, China, South Korea, Russia, the UK, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan. Over two days, leading scientists will delve into cutting-edge research on new materials for energy systems and innovative methods for battery recycling and reuse.
"We are working on all battery components - cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and different additives to improve battery performance. In my view, one of the main directions for Kazakhstan's battery industry is to recycle raw materials for lithium-ion batteries. Our nickel industry stops at the mining and primary processing stage. Still, we would like to introduce our technologies to process this raw material into higher-value-added products and further into cathode material for lithium batteries to sell them to South Korea, China and other countries," says NU Professor Zhumabay Bakenov, head of the international research team.
His research group conducts very high-level research; foreign partners are interested in cooperation.
"I have students from Kazakhstan. They did their PhD with us and came back home to do great research at NU NLA. I am interested in collaborating with them on high-capacitance materials such as solid electrical systems, charge transfer analysis, and measurement. These are fundamental parameters for high-energy systems," shares Prof. Sun-Soo Kim from Chungnam National University, South Korea.
The conference features 62 papers presented by leading scientists from institutions such as Osaka University (Japan), Skoltech (Russia), and Warwick University (UK) and others. Additionally, representatives from sponsoring industrial companies like MNLabtech, Faraday Factory Japan, Interactive Software, and Netzsch are actively participating in panel sessions. Meanwhile, there is hope for a wider representation of Kazakhstani scientists. The Institute of Combustion Problems, Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, and the Institute of Coal Chemistry and Technology LLP attended the conference this time.
