Zhanat Muminova received her M.D. from Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Almaty Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. She performed her postdoctoral work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
(1) Research of biomaterials that can mimic the extracellular matrix and allow for appropriate tissue growth and cell differentiation. (2) Applying biomaterials for the development of 3-D cellular cultures as an approach to analyze gene function, intracellular signaling and cell phenotype, specifically for discrimination between nonmalignant and malignant cells by using various molecular biology techniques and imaging methods. (3) Using 3-D cellular cultures for other biomedical applications such as drug screening and delivery along with tissue regeneration.
