Sung-Woo Moon
Dr. Sung-Woo Moon earned his B.S (2001) and M.S (2003) degrees in Civil Engineering at Hanyang University in Seoul, KOR. He obtained his Ph.D degree (2014) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, under the supervision of Prof. Youssef M.A. Hashash, focusing on two research topics such as computational geomechanics and geotechnical earthquake engineering. His dissertation title is Integrated Computational-Experimental Soil Behavior Characterization from Direct Simple Shear Tests (DSS) on Boston Blue Clay (BBC). Before NU, he had worked at National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He has been holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering in USA.
His research areas of interest are divided into three geotechnical engineering topics as follows: (1) Geotechnical and geophysical site (soil&rock) characterization; (2) Soil improvement/stabilization; (3) Natural hazard assessment and mitigation; (4) Design and analysis of energy geostructures.
Recently, he received awards as follows: (1) 2018 – 2021 Marquis Who’s Who in the world; (2) 2018 – 2021 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award
