I was born in Diego-Suarez (Madagascar) in 1959 from a Chinese immigrant father and a Madagascan mother. Since my childhood, I grew up in a French/Madagascan/Chinese culture environment. Very early I was attracted by natural sciences. I attended the French Highschool “Sadi-Carnot” of Diego-Suarez until 1978, where I obtained my high-school degree (French Baccalaureat, scientific series C).

I arrived in Paris, France, in 1978 to start my University studies at University Paris-Sud 11 in Orsay (Bachelor Degree in Physics/Chemistry in 1982, MSc Physics and DEA – Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies – in 1983). In 1986 I obtained my PhD degree in lasers, atomic and molecular physics from the same university. I obtained the French citizenship in 1986. I started my professional carrier as a researcher in optical frequency metrology and high precision measurements in optics at Observatoire de Paris, and then in several governmental research laboratories of the French National Bureau of Standards. My main specialty after more than 30 years of intensive research activity in optics and photonics is related to the investigation of nonlinear optics phenomena, to laser physics and engineering and high-precision atomic and molecular spectroscopy.

After 28 years of scientific career in France, I relocated my teaching and research activities at Nazarbaev University in Astana since 2015. More details can be found at .
