Altay Zhakatayev received the prestigious Bolashak Scholarship to study for a bachelor degree abroad. From 2006 to 2010, he studied Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, USA. After graduation, he joined Nazarbayev University as a lab assistant on Physics Foundation Program. During his work as a laboratory assistant, he helped to establish Physics Foundation laboratories and to setup the laboratory equipment. Then, he continued his education at the Mechanical Engineering Department of University College London, UK, finishing his degree with Distinction. Following this, he returned to Nazarbayev University and joined Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics Laboratory of the Department of Robotics as a junior researcher. Currently, he works as a part-time instructor and continues his doctorate work at the Department of Robotics. His main research interests include design, control and optimization of variable impedance actuated robots. His research work so far resulted in conference and journal publications in renowned venues.
