Almas Shintemirov

School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, Robotics, National Laboratory Astana
Associate Professor

Dr. Almas Shintemirov received the Engineer’s degree diploma (engineer degree) with honours in Electrical Engineering (“Electric Drives and Automation” 5-year program) and a Candidate’s degree in Technical Sciences (Ph.D.) in 2001 and 2004, respectively, from the Pavlodar State University, Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. In 2004 he was awarded the Bolashak 2005 Presidential Scholarship (Kazakhstan) to study in the United Kingdom, and in 2009 he received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Liverpool, U.K. Dr. Shintemirov started his professional career in 2003 at Pavlodar State University as an instructor of the Department of Electric Power Engineering. Shortly after returning from the UK to Kazakhstan in 2009 he joined Nazarbayev University to work in various administrative and research positions setting up the university academic schools and research centers. In 2011 Dr. Shintemirov joined the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics as a founding faculty member. Dr. Shintemirov’s Ph.D. research focused on the development of intelligent condition assessment methods and modeling of power system apparatus using advanced computation intelligence techniques. At the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Dr. Shintemirov established the Astana LAboratory for Robotic and Intelligent Systems (ALARIS), where he is currently conducting research projects on assistive and rehabilitation robotics, robot optimal control, mechatronic systems design funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Kazakhstan and Nazarbayev University. More information can be found at ALARIS website . Dr. Shintemirov is a member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society
