Upcoming Research Talks by Distinguished Professors from Pennsylvania State University

29 November, 2024, Friday Science

Dear All,

We are excited to announce two distinguished research talks featuring leading experts from Pennsylvania State University:

1. Research Talk by Professor Igor Aronson
Huck Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, and Mathematics, Pennsylvania State University
Date: November 29, 2024
Time: 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM
Location: 3.415
Topic: Applications of Synthetic Micromachines for Cancer Therapy and Drug Delivery

Overview:
Prof. Aronson will discuss the innovative use of synthetic micromachines (or nanomotors) in biomedical applications, particularly for cancer therapy and drug delivery. These micromachines, powered by chemical fuels like urea or hydrogen peroxide, transform chemical energy into mechanical motion. Prof. Aronson's research explores the collective behavior of enzymatic nanomotor swarms and the development of multifunctional chiral micro-propellers for targeted cargo transport, offering promising advancements in medical technology.

2. Research Talk by Professor Slava V. Rotkin
Materials Research Institute and Department of Engineering Science & Mechanics, Pennsylvania State University
Date: November 29, 2024
Time: 10:45 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: 3.415
Topic: Near-field Microscopy of 2D Materials: From Fundamental Physics of Polaritons to Device Applications

Overview:
Prof. Rotkin will present his groundbreaking research on atomically thin two-dimensional materials (2DM) and their applications in a range of fields, from electronics to biosensing. His talk will highlight a novel multidimensional characterization technique utilizing near-field microscopy and spectroscopy to detect strain and charge transfer in 2DM heterostructures, which significantly affect optical properties at the nanometer scale.
