Funding opportunities to study at Nazarbayev University

Government funding

The Nazarbayev University educational grant is a dedicated amount of money provided to enrolled students at the University. It covers tuition fees for the level of education or preparatory programs. It is provided under the state educational order in accordance with the regulations on admission for appropriate programs or majors.

As well as tuition fees, the grant provides a monthly stipend and guaranteed compensation money for travel. This is in accordance with the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Nazarbayev University educational grant is not offered to applicants who previously received a degree under the state educational order or under the Bolashak international scholarship.

Funding from resources of Nazarbayev University

The “Ybyray Altynsarin” grant is awarded to citizens of Kazakhstan included in the list of recommended candidates for admission to the University to a specified program/speciality and candidates that meet one or several of following criteria:

  • students left without the care of both parents (orphans) or left without the care of one parent;
  • disabled students of 1,2,3 categories;
  • students from families with many children;
  • students with one or both parents with disabilities 1,2,3 categories;

The grant is financed by Nazarbayev University and covers the tuition fees but not a monthly stipend or compensation for travel. The grant is provided for an entire period of the specified program/speciality.

“Abay Kunanbayev” scholarship – is awarded to foreign citizens and persons without citizenship recommended for admission by the Admissions Committee of the respective program. This scholarship is funded by Nazarbayev University and covers tuition fee. A monthly stipend is possible depending on the candidate’s ranking by the Admissions Committee.

Abay Kunanbayev (1845-1904)  – a Kazakh poet, a great thinker, composer,  philosopher, the founder of the Kazakh written literature and its first classic. Abay Kunanbayev had a great influence on the emerging Kazakh national intellectuals of the late XIX and early XX centuries.

Financing at the expense of the students’ own funds (fee-paying education)

Admission to a fee-paying education is carried out on a competitive basis in accordance with the Rules for Admission of the corresponding program/ speciality. The fees for tuition are indicated in the corresponding section of the program/speciality on the website of the Schools of the University.  A certain category of applicants for foundation, undergraduate and graduate programs (except the programs of Graduate Schoo lof Business), enrolled on a fee-paying basis could be provided with a scholarship, which covers from 50% to 100% of tuition costs (partial scholarship):
