“Modelling and Statistical Analyses for IoT sensing system in Geotechnical Engineering” (online or in-person).

Project Supervisor: Alfrendo Satyanaga, Assistant Professor at School of Engineering and Digital Sciences

Project summary:

Global warming contributes to the changes of climatic conditions in the world, including in Kazakhstan. As a result, the physical conditions of soils in Kazakhstan depend on the variations of climatic conditions. Improper identification of the actual conditions of soils in the field may attribute to the natural hazards, such as: landslide, soil erosion, flooding, excessive settlement, land contamination and other geotechnical issues which can be associated with many casualties and economic loss. This condition requires a smart sensing technology that is able to identify the changes in soil properties, such as: water content, soil suction, permeability, shear strength in real time. In this project, students will be exposed to IoT sensing technology in Geotechnical Engineering. The scope of works will include the modeling using computer software and statistical analyses of IoT sensing data.
