School of Medicine

NU’s School of Medicine (NUSOM) is the first school in Kazakhstan’s history to offer all of its programs in English, following a U.S.-style curriculum by collaborating with expert medical clinicians and biomedical scientists recruited from the global healthcare network. NUSOM was created to enhance the quality of medical education in the Republic of Kazakhstan and generate a transformative health care system that meets the challenges of health care reform in Kazakhstan. NUSOM’s programs offer state-of-the-art technologies that transform our students into expert medical professionals. Candidates for the School of Medicine undergo a rigorous application process and are accepted at the discretion of the NUSOM admissions department.

Bachelor in Nursing

NU’s Bachelor in Nursing is a full-time two-year program. Students can continue a career after two years (four semesters) of completed coursework.

NUSOM has crafted a curriculum that focuses on the nursing assessment of patients and communities, health promotion and disease prevention, and patient, family, and community education.

The program has been specifically designed for talented and dedicated high school graduates who are ready to complete a rigorous and demanding course of study to become highly qualified physicians.

NU SoM’s General Surgery Residency is a five-year program designed to train doctors of medicine in general surgery by focusing the program on basic and clinical research that enhances patient care expertise and surgical practice.

The General Surgery residency complies with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)’s six core competencies in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.

The residency program in orthopaedics and traumatology is a five-year program aiming to prepare a fully educated, independent, enterprising, ethically responsible, creative, interested in scientific innovations

The general aim of the program is to train a specialist orthopedic traumatologist who is able to provide qualified service within the competence and is able to apply the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities providing outpatient and inpatient orthopedic/trauma care in case of acute trauma, in case of orthopedic disease and pathology, in case of oncological diseases of musculoskeletal system, to address the issues of diagnosis, treatment, prevention, hospitalization and rehabilitation of orthopedic diseases and traumatic injuries.

Urology, Residency Program

The general aim of the program is to train a specialist urologist who is able to provide qualified service within the competence and is able to apply the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills and abilities acquired within the program include outpatient and inpatient management of urologic disease in the following domains: andrology, infertility, impotence, sexuality, calculus disease, neurourology, obstructive diseases, oncology, pediatric urology, endourology, ESWL, female urology, infectious diseases, renovascular diseases, surgery of the adrenal gland, renal transplantation, trauma, and urodynamics. This Program will educate Urology residents, according to the six ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) core competencies.

Anatomic Pathology, Residency Program

Pathology is the branch of medicine that deals with understanding the causes and processes of disease. It does this by looking at the changes in the tissues of the body, blood, and other body fluids.

This program reflects the NU SoM commitment to the development of physician-scholars and scientists who will advance evidence-based patient care and medical practice by integrating clinical work in hospital pathology laboratories in a clinical setting with research into pathological and molecular mechanisms of disease.
